Introduced October 17, 2011

While S. 1722 will only apply to early education programs in public schools, HSLDA is philosophically opposed to any program expanding the federal government’s control over education. HSLDA believes that the continuing growth of the federal government’s involvement in education is threatening local schools and parents who are trying to do what is best for their individual children. Nothing in the Constitution gives the federal government the power to manage the education of its citizens. Despite this, the federal government continues to expand its role in education at earlier and earlier ages, claiming that such interventions are necessary to achieve academic progress.

The success of homeschooling has demonstrated that the best educational achievement comes when parents can choose the best for their children without federal regulation and control.
