Tax Policy

There are no federal tax breaks for homeschooling, but some state and local laws offer relief.

The most common question that arises in the context of homeschooling and taxes is, “Can I write off educational expenses?” The answer is, “It depends.” Unfortunately, in most cases, the answer is no, but in a few select jurisdictions, homeschoolers may be able to take advantage of tax credits offered by their state’s laws. There are no federal educational or teacher tax deductions or credits that homeschool families can use.
